Churchill's undergraduates have done the College proud in its 50th anniversary year!

Alumni: 14th Jul 2010 15:02

Student at workChurchill's undergraduates have done the College proud in its 50th anniversary year, obtaining our best ever set of examination results. Our previous high mark was 2008, but this year we have gone even better. 28% of our students achieved Firsts, and an additional 47% II.1s.

These results gave us our highest placing in well over 20 years in the Tompkins Table of Cambridge College exam results. We were 3rd out of 29 Colleges. (In 1st place were Emmanuel, who had a quite exceptional year. Trinity pipped us to 2nd place by the narrowest of margins.)

The Senior Tutor, Richard Partington, commented that the undergraduates, through their talent and immense hard work, had presented the College with a wonderful birthday present in its 50th year. He also paid tribute to the dedication and focus of Churchill's Directors of Studies and Tutors. He was especially pleased that these results had been achieved at a time when Churchill had the highest proportion of state-sector students of any Cambridge College. 'I realised that this was a remarkable place as soon as I arrived here three years ago', he said. 'Churchillians have an easy and relaxed social way about them alongside an ambition to be the best and a completely can-do attitude. It's a real privilege as well as a pleasure to be among them.'
