Boat Club Dinner 2013

Message from the CCBC

This year our beloved boatmen, Jim Cameron and Chris Lloyd, will be retiring after over 60 years combined service with the Churchill College Boat Club. Week in, week out they have been there to repair the various dents, scratches and occasional catastrophic damages sustained to our pink shells, as well as helping many a Churchill crew in bumps success. They have been a friendly face to several generations of Churchill Boaties, and so this year we hope to celebrate their time with us by holding a very special May Boat Club Dinner, to which we very much hope you can join us.

The dinner will be held on the final Saturday of May Bumps, on Saturday 15 June. Tickets are priced at £50 for the dinner (with wine included) and riverside catering. Dress code is black tie/ boat club blazers.

We are making a collection for a retirement gift for Jim & Chris. If you would like to support this, please send your cheque made payable to 'Churchill College' to Jim & Chris c/o James Adamcheski-Halson, Alumni Relations Manager, Churchill College, Storey's Way, Cambridge, CB3 0DS.

A guest book will be available on the evening so that any personal messages can be written – this will include photos from past Churchill crews (if you have any old photos you wish to have included, please email them to Kat Wood, the Overall Captain).

The auction for the name of our new ladies racing IV will be held after the meal in the Main Dining Hall to the highest bidder. This will be compered by our Lower Boats Captain and resident Irishman, Mr Eoghan Hartigan. An image of the racing shell appears below.

CCBC 2013

Tentative programme of events

12:00 – 18:00 Meet by the side of the river to support the Churchill crews racing in May Bumps. Drinks and light snacks will be provided as part of the ticket price. Details of location to follow.

19:00 - 20:00 Pimms drinks reception in the College gardens and a good opportunity to meet current club members. Photographs will be taken, with a group club photo at 7:45pm.

20:00 - Dinner to be held in the Main Dining Hall. Speeches from the various captains will be given between courses as is traditional. Following the meal we will have a toast to Jim and Chris, and those who knew them will have the opportunity to say a few words.

We also hope to auction off the name of our new ladies pink racing IV. This will be held over coffee and petit fours after the meal.

A small number of rooms are available in College on a first-come-first-basis. Please contact Kelly Bridge, Conference Coordinator (Accommodation), to book your room subject to availability.

Please ensure that you mention your College affiliation to benefit from an Alumni discount.

The Møller Centre can be found on the Churchill College site and may have some availability. A special Churchill Alumni rate is offered so please quote your College and matriculation year when booking. Accommodation can be booked, subject to availability, by emailing the Centre direct.

Cambridge Rooms is a good destination to find and book your room in Collegiate Cambridge.
